Children’s 2D illustration and animation work
I currently have a great project happening requiring a lot of fun, colourful, and child friendly, illustrations to be created and to be animated. It’s for a new TV show call SplashDance – it’s currently showing on ABC Kids in Australia. It’s a TV series all about Dance, Music and Energy, with a hint of magic and weirdness thrown in. Aimed at the under 5s market. I get to design, illustrate, and animate the 26 wonderful worlds for the cast to be keyed into for this first series, and hopefully a few more series after this!
Here’s some illustration work in progress. I’m using Affinity Designer for most of the illustration work, and some will be modelled and rendered in Cinema 4D. The final composite will be completed in After Effects.
SplashDance Colour Wrong Farm Set design illustration. Filled with wrong coloured farm animals!
Extended set design of the SplashDance Tiger Roar episode. The water feature on the side is shown in one side shot during the song and gives the sense of a more complete environment the actors are inhabiting.
Tropical setting for the SplashDance Hot Beach Hop Episode. The cast hop over the hot sand to the shaded grass areas on either side.
My process starts with a rough sketch or scamp as I call them. Followed by a more complete sketch on paper with ink of the prop or set. Once this is approved I create the illustration in Affinity (new software of choice for this sort of work!). The animation process will be done in After Effects and brought to its glorious life.
